Weekly spotlight - 101 ways to use buttons on your layouts or cards....

Okay - so not really 101 - but tons of great ideas....

Buttons are a great way to add dimension, texture, color, whimsy, - you name it - to your projects. Remember that wherever you would place a button, you could also place an eyelet, brad, or bling as well. I try hard not to copy a card from start to finish (although I have for SU! stamp demo class cards on occasion :-). However, I do keep an idea file by medium on hand of images that I have found on fellow crafters sites over the years that I am happy to share below... Please feel free to post your own ideas and experiences with buttons in the comments section below!!!

Use buttons with your stamped stems to be the flower....

A great addition to your stamped accents....

String twine, hemp thread, or embroidery thread through centers for a light alternative to ribbon centers...

Place alone over die cut or punched flowers....

Jen used a white button on her flocked chipboard flower, so cute....

Place randomly on your project for added texture...

A whimsical effect shown here....

Add emphasis to the leftover negative space of your chipboard...

Layer your objects for a great effect....

Place a row of buttons over patterned paper edges for a dimensional transition between the layers...

Hand sew through button holes for a creative way to hold your ribbon in place...

Don't have the perfect stamp for the job? Group together multiple buttons and use as your main embellishment for your project...

Group together using the rule of odds - placing objects in odd numbers gives an asymetrical effect that is pleasing to the eye....

Fold flowers in half, place oversized button atop and finish with a ribbon for a fabulous effect!!

Use solely in the center of your stamped image - or place directly onto the center of an existing flower on your patterned paper....

Don't have the right button for the project? Create your own with punches.

Fabric flower center with ribbon added for texture...

Fabric flower centers - here the flowers are reversed for more dimension.

Experiment with different shapes and contrasts...

Emphasize your polka dots with a monochromatic effect.

Create an oversized effect out of a small button by placing it atop a small accent - makes a nice addition to dress up your chipboard accents...

They make a great nose for your animals - pigs, bunny's , whatever you can think of!

Cut - yes cut your buttons in half for a fun effect! (Very talented lady here!)

Use a button as an accent to your bow centers.

Add doodles or rubons to your buttons.

- add accents to your stamped or rubon sentiments.
And don't forget clear buttons can take on the look of whatever you place under them - patterned paper or stamped images...
I hope you find these techniques helpful and have a great day!!
